In Depth Reviews…
Having trouble looking for the perfect traveler laptop backpack? Afraid of buying one and just feel bad after? Well here are the pros and cons of six must-have backpacks ideal for the urban professional or athletic student who just can’t survive this fast-paced world without a trusty laptop.
Consumers looking for the best computer backpack often rely on reviews. Reading comments provided by users is one way to gauge how well a certain computer backpack will suit your needs. However, when writing laptop computer backpack reviews most user reviews seem to have a one sided focus, the good or the bad.
Before making an educated purchase a consumer should find out both the negative and the positive of the most popular products available.
Booq Boa Squeeze Review
Pros
The uber stylish Booq Boa Squeeze has beautiful contours that not only makes this bag sleek and sexy, but also ergonomic and virtually waterproof. The durable water-repelling ballistic nylon material makes this a perfect bag to keep your laptop dry during the wet season. A densely padded sleeve keeps your 17” laptop cushioned and scratch free. This computer backpack also features two spacious side compartments that lets you access your iPod, mobile phone, sunglasses, and other objects without having to remove your bag.
Cons
The stylish and curvy appearance may not look as good as it is supposed to look on medium sized males or bigger. Yes, it fits perfectly and comfortably, but it does not look quite appealing for big men as the Booq Boa Squeeze looks small because of its contours (besides the fact that it is relatively smaller). People may mistake you for borrowing your 12 year old boy’s school bag.
Oakley Kitchen Sink Backpack Review
Pros
Rugged and spacious, the Oakley Kitchen Sink Backpack is the ideal computer bag to bring your laptop and other gadgets to the great outdoors, or urban jungle. Featuring multiple (and we mean, multiple) and specific compartments – 17” laptop sleeve, mobile phone strap pocket, tool pocket, and a compression molded eyewear and MP3 compartment. You can virtually fit your laptop, a complete change of clothing, and a pair of shoes – and you still got plenty of space for your computer peripherals! It also features an integrated drainage system that keeps wet and soiled items inside your bag grow trees inside your bag.
Cons
The Oakley Kitchen Sink Backpack is not really aesthetically appealing, as it features a really rugged and macho appearance, which will only suit big men or extreme athletes. The entire bag looks bulky and complicated as it features a molded top, three metal hooks in the front, three excessive Velcro straps at both sides, and latched front compartment. If this computer backpack was available in copper instead of a black finish, it would look like a miniature 19th Century dive suit. And why is it even called the Kitchen Sink?
Timbuk2 H.A.L. Backpack Review
Pros
The Timbuk2 H.A.L. Backpack is a very huge bag perfect for the techie traveler. It features a very spacious main compartment, multiple dedicated pockets for small items such as passports, tickets, computer peripherals, cords, and mobile devices. The best feature about the H.A.L. Laptop bag is the laptop hammock compartment that supports your laptop above the backpack base, so you can set your bag down without worries. The laptop can also be accessed from the side of your bag, without the need of removing your backpack.
Cons
The Timbuk2 H.A.L. Backpack features no dedicated water bottle pocket, which is essential for any hiker, biker, or just about anyone who walks around with a laptop in your back in a hot and toasty day. It also features no compression straps that lets the bag be smaller whenever not carrying full load. Without compression straps, documents and folders inside a half empty H.A.L. will just be creased at the bottom of the bag. The seemingly awkward dimensions of the bag may also make opening the main compartment of the backpack quite difficult to open at times.
Belkin Core Laptop Backpack Review
The Belkin Core is a classically designed laptop backpack that fits 15 inch laptops that has made many users happy. Extra padding gives the laptop protection if dropped and the soft interior protects the laptop from scratches. There is an exterior pocket perfectly sized to fit a cell phone or mp3 player complete with a headphone hole. The Belkin Core comes with a removable pouch that can be used to store all of your extras.
While there are many computer backpack reviews raving about how wonderful the Belkin Core is, there are a few reviews written by consumers who were less than impressed. The Belkin Core’s heavily padded interior makes the laptop backpack less spacious. Buyers owning anything larger than a netbook have a difficult time carrying extras such as chargers, software, or books. The space issue is compounded by the several internal pouches that are too small for practical use and take the precious interior space.
Kensington Contour Pro Laptop Backpack Review
Providing back support and space for a larger laptop, the Kensington Contour backpack is a stylish and durable laptop computer backpack. The backpack’s leather exterior gives the laptop backpack a sleek look making it stand out from the average laptop backpack. Designed with long-term use in mind the Kensington Contour is perfect for daily use and traveling.
Like many laptop backpacks the Kensington Contour has several exterior and interior pockets. Unfortunately, the majority of the pockets, including the water bottle compartment, are too small for actual use. Though the Kensington Contour has provided many buyers with years of service, there are problems with zipper breakage after only a few uses. Also, the owners of larger laptops describe the fit as “snug” stating they often have to use two hands to remove their laptop from the compartment.
Bumbakpak Streetflow Collection Laptop Backpack Review
Bumbakpak Streetflow computer backpack reviews all applaud the versatility of the backpack. Unlike many laptop backpacks, the Bumbakpak allows users to alternate between backpack and messenger bag style. With over 12 compartments sized to fit everything from small electronics to chargers, the laptop backpack gives computer owners a safe way to carry their laptop when traveling and a stylish way to carry the laptop to work.
Though the laptop backpack is stylish and versatile, there are a few drawbacks. The laptop backpack is advertised as being able to carry laptops up to 15.4” laptop owners have found they are unable to fit their 15 inch laptops without some work. The manufacturer lists some types of laptops that do not always fit, but a few users have complained that their laptop was not on the list.
Laptop Computer Backpack Reviews Summary
While the experiences of the majority of a laptop backpack’s owners can give a potential buyer a good idea of what to expect it is important to remember that your experience may differ from what you have read in reviews. To avoid disappointment find out if the backpack’s manufacturer offers any type of warranty service or customer satisfaction guarantee. Even if you never have trouble with your laptop backpack, knowing you have someone to contact in case of a problem will increase your overall consumer experience.
